A Good Meeting And Lots Of Other Assorted Updates
Monday, March 26th, 2018 02:48 pmEven though I've mentioned a game I like to play on my iPhone called Timecrest I've been forgetting to mention something about said game that I think is neat. When the text that Timecrest displays on my phone says that something a character is doing will take five hours, Timecrest then pauses the game for five hours in real-time. In some ways though it can be annoying that Timecrest pauses the game for a certain amount of time in real life because I'm addicted to that particular game! LOL. If I haven't said this in my blog before, I highly recommend Timecrest to anyone. It's a lot of fun, not to mention it's a great way for people to escape the real world for a bit. Early Saturday morning I stayed up later than usual because I wanted to finish watching Marvel's Jessica Jones. I did just that: since there were only a couple more episodes of the show to watch I got through each episode quickly. The show as a whole was really relatable to me and I'm curious to see whether there will be a third season of the show or not. Late Saturday afternoon I started watching the Netflix original show called Marvel's Daredevil. I honestly couldn't get into that particular show the way I immediately got into Marvel's Jessica Jones. Yet I'm definitely going to stick with watching Marvel's Daredevil because I want to see where that particular show is going to lead. A little while after I'd watched the first episode of Marvel's Daredevil with a friend of mine, said friend and I took Uber to the drive-thru at Chick-Fil-A. Although the Uber driver my friend and I had was definitely on drugs. My friend and I could tell that our Uber driver was on drugs because of the way he was acting. The Uber driver was having a conversation with himself about one specific subject until my friend lead him to talk about something else. Then once we'd arrived at the drive-thru of Chick-Fil-A the Uber driver told my friend and I that he thought that the Chick-Fil-A ladies wanted him sexually because each lady said "my pleasure" when I thanked them for their good customer service. Apparently my friend tuned out our Uber driver but I paid attention to our Uber driver because I found it interesting to observe how he was acting. LOL. It was such a weird Uber ride, that's for sure. Once my friend and I'd gotten our food from the Chick-Fil-A drive-thru we went back to his place to hang out with one another. While he and I were eating our food he asked me whether I cared about the fact that Chick-Fil-A is discriminatory against gay people. I told him that while I don't like to hear that people are homophobic, it doesn't bother me that Chick-Fil-A has shitty views of gay people. The reason it doesn't bother me that Chick-Fil-A thinks ill of gay people is because Chick-Fil-A has tasty food. I go to Chick-Fil-A to eat the delicious food that that particular business serves its customers. However I then told my friend that if I ever saw Chick-Fil-A openly discriminate against gay people, that would be an entirely different story. At that point Chick-Fil-A's views would become deeply personal to me. Seeing something like that happen would certainly cause me to no longer give said business my business. But right now, given that I've never seen anything like that happen at Chick-Fil-A I'm going to continue to eat the delicious food that Chick-Fil-A serves its customers. Yesterday afternoon I received an email from jobs that Apple had recently posted on that particular business's website. So I guess when I'd attempted to unsubscribe from job posting emails at Apple a while back, that didn't actually work as I'd hoped it would. So I logged onto Apple's job posting website and signed into said website with my information. Nowhere when I was logged into that particular website did I see a place that would allow me to stop receiving job posting emails from Apple which was frustrating as hell. So shortly after I'd tried that particular avenue I then Googled something like "unsubscribing from job posting emails from Apple." Unfortunately though that particular Google search didn't come up with anything different than what I'd seen displayed in search results before. So I then posted an FB status update asking whether any of my blind friends who use Apple products have any other suggestions about how I can resolve this annoying issue. In the same FB status update I'd written I'd also made my friends aware of the fact that I'd tried several different things so far and then I listed exactly what it was that I'd done so far to try and make job posting emails from Apple go away. Shortly after I'd posted that particular FB status update I received an email from Pandora. In the email that that particular business had sent me, said business wanted to know whether my issue with Pandora Radio had been resolved. So I let Pandora Radio know what my recent experience with a staff member of theirs was like through filling out a few survey questions from the link that I'd been sent in the latest email I'd received from Pandora Radio. A little while after I'd responded to the survey I'd been emailed by Pandora Radio an acquaintance of mine asked me if I'd need help moving my things to my new place. So I immediately told said acquaintance that it would be great to have his help moving my things into my new place. He then told me that it would work best for him if I could change my move-in date to the second of April. So I texted my landlord right away and asked him if moving in a day later than I'd originally planned to move in would be okay. After I'd sent him that text message I assigned him his own text tone so that I'd know when I receive text messages from him. A little while after I'd assigned my new landlord his own text tone I finished reading Daring Greatly: How Being Vulnerable Transforms The Way We Live, Love, Parent And Lead. My opinion of said book remains the same as when I'd first written in my blog about having started said book. Although if you aren't the type of person who enjoys reading self-help books for the sake of being introspective then I wouldn't recommend you read Daring Greatly: How Being Vulnerable Transforms The Way We Live, Love, Parent And Lead. A little while after I'd finished Daring Greatly: How Being Vulnerable Transforms The Way We Live, Love, Parent And Lead I emailed my pharmacy to let that particular business know that my Texas insurance benefits had been closed. In the same email I'd sent my pharmacy I also informed my pharmacy of what my new insurance company is. Shortly after I'd taken care of that important thing I started reading a book called The Gift Of Fear. I'd actually read that particular book after I'd gotten sexually assaulted in July 2009. However I don't remember much about The Gift Of Fear other than that that particular book talks about how people can use his or her intuition to tell when he or she's in a bad situation. This morning I found an outfit of mine that was shorts and a shirt put together which meant that those things matched one another. So that's what I wore for today's meeting with one of the academic counselors at the college I'm going to be attending. I had a little while before I left the apartment though to check my email and text messages. In reading through my text messages this morning it turned out that I'd received a response from my landlord. In the text message he'd sent me he said that it would be fine for me to move in on Monday April 2nd. I immediately replied to said text message to ask him if there was a specific time that day that would work best for him. He said that anytime that day would work. Shortly after I'd read that particular text message from my landlord I checked my email. It turned out that I'd received an email from my pharmacy. In the email that my pharmacy had sent me I was asked to provide said business with my new insurance card information. That way my pharmacy would be able to check whether that particular business has a contract with my new insurance company or not. I'd also received an email from the local State Library for the Blind. That particular email that I'd received from the State Library for the Blind was from the department that I'd recently emailed to order a few books in Braille. In that particular email from the State Library for the Blind though I was informed that said library only has the books I'd requested in audio format which was disappointing. However it's a good thing that I have Bookshare because there are a ton of books on that particular website. So hopefully the books I'd asked the State Library for the Blind for in Braille, will be on Bookshare. Shortly after I'd finished reading the email from the State Library for the Blind it was time for me to leave the apartment. Fortunately the Uber driver that my friend and I'd had then was good, at least in the sense that she dropped us off exactly where we needed to be. Other Uber drivers that my friend and I've had have not always been the best at getting us exactly where we needed to be at the college. So once i'd arrived at the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) I waited for the academic counselor to call my name. When it was time for my meeting with her she asked me what I needed to do with her today. So I told her that I'd had my transcripts sent to the college that I'm going to be attending and that I was under the impression that she and I were going to create my education plan today. However she then told me that today's meeting hadn't actually been scheduled as a meeting to go over my transcripts from other schools. Even so though she ended up being accommodating to me. She printed out my transcripts from the other schools that I'd attended college at and told me what the results were. It turned out that most classes that I'd attempted to take were not completed. There were two college classes though that I made A's in!! One of those classes was Mass Communications. Back then my major was journalism which was why I took Mass Communications. I really enjoyed said class. In case anyone doesn't know what I learned in Mass Communications, said course was about the media and how the media's entire goal is to put fear into people. There were different projects that we students did in that particular class as well such as creating a public blog that could be about anything we wanted to write about as long as the topic related to the Mass Communications course. That was what I did: I created a public blog but I don't even remember what I wrote in it or what the website link was. LOL. The other college course that I made an A in was an advanced Spanish course called Conversational Spanish. There's actually an interesting story behind me taking the Conversational Spanish class: when I was signing up for my college classes at Austin Community College (ACC) I saw Conversational Spanish as a course that was listed on ACC's website. So I wanted to take that particular course. At the time I was looking at the courses online that I could take, my mom was hovering over me, watching which courses I chose. So when I chose the Conversational Spanish course as a class that I wanted to take, my mom belittled me. She said something like "What the fuck are you doing? You don't even meet the prerequisites for the Conversational Spanish class." I told her that I was going to take that class because I wanted to do so and that I knew I'd do well in taking said class. She then said something like "Well then if you want to set yourself up for failure that's your problem." So that's the interesting story: the fact that I ended up doing so well in that particular class, even better than what I'd thought I could do. So anyway Mass Communications and Conversational Spanish were both classes that I took at ACC and that I both got A's in!! Going back to today's meeting with an academic counselor at the college I'm going to be attending: after she and I'd gone over my transcripts with one another she told me that she thinks the Mass Communications course will be able to transfer over to the college I'm going to be attending. However she isn't sure if the Conversational Spanish course I'd taken at ACC can be transferred over to the college I'm going to be attending. She said that she'd let me know what she'd found out when she and I meet again. She then told me that I'd need to take an assessment to see where I'm at with Math and English. However she told me that the head of the OSD Department would let me know what date would work for me to take said assessment. Because I have to take the assessment before the academic counselor and I can create my education plan. However the academic counselor at the college I'm going to be attending went ahead and scheduled hers and my next meeting with one another for April 9 at 9 in the morning. So as long as I get the assessment done before then I should be good to go. During the academic counselor's and my meeting with one another today she also told me that the date for priority registration is May 1st. That's different information than I'd been given by a friend of mine who attends said college so I'm going to double-check that information to be on the safe side. Before I'd left the academic counselor's office though I asked if she'd please print out a copy of my accommodation sheet for me. That way I'd be able to give said accommodation sheet to the Assessment Center when I go to the college to take the assessment. Fortunately she printed out my accommodation sheet for me with no problem. Once she'd handed me the print paper I asked her if she had a clip or some tape to put on the paper. That way I'd be able to distinguish said paperwork from the other papers that I sometimes carry around with me. Fortunately she had a clip that she'd clipped to the back of the paperwork. I then asked the academic counselor at the college if she knew when I'd receive my FAFSA information. Fortunately she knew the answer to that particular question: she'd told me that I'd receive my financial aid information once I start taking classes at the college. Once I'd left her office I asked a college student from the OSD if she'd read the information on my insurance card for me. She was kind enough to help in that way and I wrote down said information in the notes on my iPhone. Once I'd written down everything that was on my insurance card I called Uber. Initially when I'd called for Uber pool I was informed that I had a female Uber driver. However a few seconds later the Uber driver I was told I'd have changed to a male. I'd never had that sort of thing happen before but maybe it's common when people use Uber pool. Anyway when the Uber app let me know that my driver was outside I had a student in the OSD walk me outside. However there was no sign of an Uber driver anywhere. So just as the fellow college student and I wondered where the Uber driver could be I received a phone call from a number that I didn't recognize. Fortunately the person who'd called me was the Uber driver. Unfortunately though said Uber driver spoke piss poor English. Usually though I don't have trouble understanding people who have foreign accents...but when I do have trouble understanding people who have foreign accents it's a real problem for me, especially being totally blind. So I went back and forth with said Uber driver to try and ask him to come directly where I was at. He was saying things to me too but I couldn't understand more than a word of what he was saying. It was incredibly frustrating to say the least! The student from the OSD ended up walking with me to where the Uber driver said he was located at the college. Although the student from the OSD didn't see the Uber driver then either. Fortunately though the student from the OSD saw the Uber driver pretty quickly though. Then once I'd gotten into said Uber driver's car someone else was dropped off before I was dropped off. However in checking my Uber receipt that i was emailed after my trip had been completed I was happy to know that said Uber driver didn't charge me more money than I'd expected to pay for that particular ride. I was also happy to discover that said Uber driver dropped me off at the correct spot at the apartment I'm currently staying at. Once I'd gotten into the apartment though I checked my school email address because I was expecting an email from the academic counselor at the college I'm going to be attending. And just as she'd told me she'd do when I was in her office, she'd emailed me like she'd said she would. So I immediately read the email that she'd sent me. In the email she'd sent me she'd given me the date of April 9 and the time of 9 in the morning for the day that she and I'd have our next meeting with one another. So I immediately replied to her email asking her if there was any way that the college I'm going to be attending could make the Conversational Spanish class I'd taken at ACC count for an elective if nothing else. Because in my mind it would kind of suck if the college I'm going to be attending can't make said course count for anything, given that I'd gotten an A in said college class. Shortly after I'd replied to the academic counselor's email who's at the college I'm going to be attending I copied the notes to my phone's clipboard that contained my new insurance information. Once I'd copied said information onto my phone's clipboard I pasted said information into the reply email that I then sent to my pharmacy. A little while after I'd sent said reply email to my pharmacy I read another email from the local State Library for the Blind. In the second email that I'd been sent by that particular agency I was informed that I could use the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) website and phone app to download books from that particular agency. So I immediately replied to that particular email from the local State Library for the Blind. In that particular reply email I'd sent to said agency I told the person that I'd already signed up with the BARD website and phone app when I was a patron of the Texas State Library for the Blind. In the same email I'd sent said agency I also asked said agency whether or not I'd have to register with the BARD phone app and website as a patron of the state I live in now. After I'd sent that particular email to the local State Library for the Blind I then read a reply email from my pharmacy. In the reply email that my pharmacy had sent me I was informed that said pharmacy does not contract with my new insurance company. So I immediately sent a reply email to my current pharmacy to verify that from this point it's on me to contact my new insurance company to find out whether said insurance company will pay for me to use a mail delivery pharmacy or not. Shortly after I'd sent that particular reply email to my current pharmacy I heard my email account ding on my Apple Watch. However given that I hadn't eaten anything at all yet today I didn't look at who said email was from. After I post this particular blog entry I'm going to eat my Subway sandwich that a friend of mine had gotten me yesterday. The sandwich that my friend had gotten me yesterday was a foot-long but I only ate half of said sandwich yesterday which is why I have the other half of the sandwich to eat now!! It's going to be delicious. I just know it!!
