Numerous Updates And Unexpected Happenings
Saturday, March 31st, 2018 05:34 pmI've been forgetting to mention that the first time I'd called my new insurance company, said insurance company's automated system gave the prompts like "press one for English, press two for Spanish ETC" the automated system also spoke other different languages which is neat because I've never heard of a business having so many options for other languages before. Interestingly though I've also been forgetting to mention that the number I call for my new insurance company is called the :help line." I vote that that name be changed to the "unhelpful line" because calling said phone number has not helped me one bit. I'm well aware that people fucking suck but I wouldn't have thought that an insurance company's phone number would be so unhelpful. It's ridiculous if you ask me. In the last blog entry that i'd written Thursday I forgot to mention that the same day I'd read a blog post on FB that a friend of mine who's blind wrote about being a blind parent. Although I never want to have kids myself I thought that particular article that my friend had written was informative with good food for thought for everyone who'd read that particular blog post. Given the fact that said blog post was so informative I copied the link to my phone's clipboard then pasted said link into a text message to my landlord. I thought that him and his wife would enjoy reading such an article, especially given that those two people already have great outlooks about how blind people live and function in the sighted world that those blind people live in. In the last blog entry that I'd written Thursday I also forgot to mention the fact that that same day I'd received the customer service guide in Braille from the local paratransit company. I read the entire booklet in a couple sittings just because said booklet was something to read. Because sometimes it's just nice to read an actual book in a physical hardcopy Braille format. In the last blog entry that I'd written Thursday I also forgot to mention that I'd received a proof of income letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) which was weird because I'd already received that particular document from that particular agency. Oh well. Shit happens. LOL. Shortly after I'd written my last blog entry Thursday a friend of mine searched on YouTube to see whether he could find out whether the charger that Samsung wanted to send me was accessible with the iPhone 7. Fortunately he was able to find a YouTube video right away that told the two of us what we'd wanted to know: the charger that Samsung was trying to send me was not accessible with the iPhone 7. So immediately after I'd discovered that disappointment I replied to Samsung's DM on Twitter saying something like "I just learned that the charger your company wants to send me is not accessible with the iPhone 7 which is the device that I use. I don't want another fucking charger. I want my money back." A little while later Samsung responded to my DM saying that they would pass along said message to that particular company's other team members. Shortly after I'd read that particular DM from Samsung I received an automatic response email from Apple notifying me that someone would respond to my issue within the next day or two. Shortly after I'd read said automatic email from Apple I asked a friend of mine if he had a fairly big zip lock bag that I could borrow to put everything in that I'd need to take to the DMV. Fortunately my friend had a zip lock bag that he let me borrow. I put my Texas state ID as well as my proof of income letter from the SSA in the zip lock bag. I then dug in one of my suitcases to look for a folder that I'd brought with me. That particular folder contained my medical things (including my birth certificate) which I knew I'd need to take with me to the DMV. So I grabbed everything that was inside of my medical folder and used an app on my iPhone called Seeing AI to scan each piece of paper that was inside of my medical folder. In scanning every piece of paper that was inside of my medical folder it turned out that most of the papers that were in said folder were things that I no longer needed anymore since I no longer live in Texas. It was a relief to finally go through said folder because there were a lot of papers in it that I didn't want to leave sitting around. Surprisingly I had two print copies of my name change order when my mom and stepdad legally changed my last name from my birth last name to my stepdad's last name. It was kind of crazy to find that particular document because I'd totally forgotten that I'd even had said document in my possession. Yet I remembered obtaining that particular document at the same time that I'd obtained a copy of my birth certificate a year or so ago. So anyway once I'd seen the document of my legal name change order I put that particular document into the zip lock bag that my friend had let me borrow. Because if someone at the DMV had questions about why my name was one thing on my Texas state ID and a different last name on my birth certificate I wanted to be able to show actual proof of my legal last name change. Yesterday morning I received a phone call from a number that I didn't recognize. However given the fact that I was still exhausted I didn't answer the call. Thankfully though when I got up for good I discovered that the person who'd called me had left me a voicemail. When I listened to said voicemail that the person left I discovered that the person calling me was from the local paratransit company. The person who'd called me from the local paratransit company wanted to know how my recent experiences were with that particular business. I don't plan on calling that particular business back because I'm certain that that particular business doesn't give a shit what people's experiences are with the local paratransit company. It's awful to say that but I believe it's true that no paratransit company genuinely cares about the people who use such services. Shortly after I'd listened to the voicemail that the local paratransit company had left me I got the money together that I'd need to pay for my local state ID card at the DMV. Once I'd gotten the money together that I'd need to take to the DMV a friend and I talked with one another about whether the OSD at the college I'm going to be attending was going to have each part of the assessment in Braille for me as I'd requested of that particular department. My friend told me that I didn't have to worry about anything because that particular department at the college I'm going to be attending exists to ensure that the students at said college are successful in whatever way he or she can be successful in school. A little while after I'd had that particular conversation with a friend of mine I asked an acquaintance of mine if he'd be willing to take me to the local DMV so that I could get a state ID card. He said that he wouldn't mind helping me in that way at all and a little while later he and I went to the local DMV together. While he and I were on our way there though he told me that the lines for the DMV in this particular city were always really long. I told him that usually when staff members at this type of agency see me with my walking cane those staff members correctly assume that I can't stand for a long time. At this particular DMV though my experience was different than what I'd expected it to be like. What I mean in saying that my experience at this particular DMV was different than I'd expected it to be is that when my acquaintance and I walked into the building with one another no one asked me if I wanted to go to the front of one of the lines. So my acquaintance found a lady who worked at that particular DMV and asked her if I could go to the front of one of the lines because I'm unable to stand for a long time. The lady told my acquaintance that he and I'd have to wait but then she allowed us to be helped by her. She asked me what I'd wanted to do at the DMV and I told her that I wanted to obtain a state ID card. She then asked me if I was aware of all the documents that I'd need to show her in order to make that happen for myself. So thinking that I'd come to the DMV prepared I told her that yes I'd come with the documents I'd need to show her in order for me to get a state ID card. I gave her all of the documents that I'd come with. Somehow though a proof of income letter from the SSA in San Antonio ended up in the zip lock bag that I'd borrowed from a friend. Fortunately though I had my backpack with me which had a proof of income letter from the SSA in this particular state. However the lady helping me then told me that she couldn't accept my Texas state ID card as a valid form of identification which I'd never heard of before. She then told me that she also couldn't accept a copy of my legal name change order as a valid form of identification. According to her my legal name change order had to be a certified version of my legal name change rather than just a copy of my legal name change. I don't know what the difference is between those two things though, minus the fact that a certified copy of my legal name change order has a symbol on it that shows that it's a legitimate court order from the actual court who'd made my legal name change. The lady also told me that I could obtain a passport in this particular state because a passport counts as a legitimate form of identification to the DMV in this particular state. Before my acquaintance and I'd left the DMV in this city the lady did give us an application that I could fill out to obtain a state ID card once I'd had either a passport or a certified copy of my legal name change document. So once my acquaintance brought me back to the apartment he was nice enough to help me fill out said application. So at least that particular step is done now. After my acquaintance had left the apartment I Googled "Travis County, contact us" to see if I could find an email address that would get me to where I needed to go. Fortunately I found an email address where I could request for a court clerk to look for the particular document that I needed a certified copy of so I used said email address to ask said court for what I needed to obtain. In the email I'd sent said court I also included my phone number so that someone could contact me to let me pay for the certified copy of my legal name change order. Shortly after I'd taken care of that, I spent what felt like forever Googling different things to try and figure out whether my new insurance company would pay for me to use a mail order pharmacy so that I wouldn't have to physically go to a pharmacy every month to pick up my medications. Unfortunately though I couldn't find anything online that was helpful in the way that I needed it to be. So after I'd messed with trying to find a mail order pharmacy for a little bit I started to read Braving The Wilderness: The Quest For True Belonging And The Courage To Stand Alone. However after I'd read the second chapter of that particular book and tried to go to the third chapter of said book using Safari on my iPhone, Safari got difficult on me. It seemed like once I'd double-tapped my iPhone to have Safari go to the third chapter of Braving The Wilderness: The Quest For True Belonging And The Courage To Stand Alone, Safari skipped that particular chapter of said book and went all the way to that particular book's appendix section. What a pain in the ass that was! Sometime when I was still asleep this morning I received a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. So I of course didn't answer the phone call. Then immediately after I'd received the phone call from a number that I didn't recognize I received a text message from that same number. I knew that no one was trying to get a hold of me on the weekend for any reason so I didn't look at the text message from that number until I actually got up. Of course the person who'd texted me had the wrong number. So I immediately replied to that person's text message letting him or her know that she or he'd had the wrong number. Then not even five seconds after I'd texted the person he or she'd texted me back verifying that I wasn't the friend that he or she was looking for. So I then replied to that person's text message one last time saying that no, I wasn't the person he or she wanted to get a hold of. Fortunately that was the end of that particular experience. That being said though whenever people text me and I know that those people have the wrong number I always text those people to let them know the truth. And most times that's happened to me, the people never text me again. There has been one other time though where I'd texted someone to let them know that he or she'd texted the wrong number and I figured out that the person who'd texted me was probably someone's little brat messing around because the person kept texting me the same thing over and over again. Eventually though he or she finally stopped texting my number when I'd stopped responding to their text messages. There was also a time when I'd texted someone back because the person sending a text message was a grandma trying to tell her grandkid happy birthday. Once I'd told her that she'd had the wrong number she apologized and wished me a good day. The reason I don't hesitate to text people back when I know those people have the wrong number is because I'd want to know if I was texting a number that was no longer the number of the friend of mine whose number it used to be. Also, I just think it's courteous to tell the truth, no matter how small a thing happens to be. Shortly after I'd sent the last text message to the number that I didn't recognize I checked the balance in my bank account because I wanted to see whether I could go ahead and schedule to pay my landlord my rent in advance. And when I'd logged onto my bank's app using my iPhone I momentarily freaked out because I saw that my bank account had a lot of money in it. However I quickly remembered that since the first of April was on a weekend I'd received my SSI on Friday. So once I'd realized what had happened I felt better. LOL. I then discovered that I wouldn't be able to schedule for anything to come out of my bank account in April until it was actually the first of April. Once I'd logged off of my bank's phone app I received an email from Apple that was an actual response from an Apple employee. In the email that the employee from Apple had sent me he or she informed me that my refund would take up to 10 days to get to me but that said refund had been processed successfully. Shortly after I'd read that email from Apple I read a DM that Samsung had sent me. In the DM that that particular business had sent me I was informed that said business was in the process of sending me a gift card for the exact amount of money that I'd paid for the wireless charging pad that I'd purchased from T-Mobile back in August of last year. Shortly after I'd read that particular DM from Samsung I emailed the local State Library for the Blind to ask that particular agency if said agency had any books in Braille by the author Brene Brown. Because I really, really want to physically read a Braille book. I can't explain why my want to physically read a Braille book is such a strong feeling but it is. And I doubt the strong feeling will lessen until I fulfill that particular want. Because said want is kind of like a craving in the sense that a person having a craving for a particular food or drink is not able to fulfill said craving until he or she's able to have said food or drink item. Well cravings are quite similar to me wanting to read an actual Braille book in that I don't think said want will go away until I read an actual book in Braille. A while after I'd emailed the local State Library for the Blind I replied to the Email that an Apple employee had sent me earlier in the day. In the reply email that I'd sent to an Apple employee I asked said employee if he or she could help me figure out how I can unsubscribe from receiving job posting emails from Apple. In the same email I'd sent to the Apple employee I let him or her know that I'd Googled everything I could think of about how to unsubscribe from those emails. Yet I've come up empty every time I've Googled something related to receiving job posting emails from Apple. In the same email I'd sent said Apple employee though I also asked if he or she'd forward my email to the appropriate department if he or she couldn't help me resolve the second issue I'd presented to him or her.
